“I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn”. - Albert Einstein.

Our children belong to the 21st century so their learning must help the students succeed in work, life and prepare them to be active participants in our exciting, dynamic and challenging global community. We need to know that as educators the expectation from us is to prepare young learners for careers and challenges that don’t yet exist. The existing curriculum needs to be fine tuned to meet tomorrow’s reality. Schools are incorporating technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality, to enable more innovative and engaging teaching methods and learning experiences.

In our traditional class rooms our main focus was on 3 R’s – Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, but with 21st century children we need to master the 4C’s too, creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. For implementation of 4C’s and 3R’s the teacher needs to bring about a change in the process of teaching. She needs to take up the role of a facilitator and provide opportunities for her students that would excite them and motivate them. We must remember that today’s students are self learners; they just need the right environment that will enable them to learn. Technology is a good tool that can be used to make learning more interesting, exciting and effective. We need to train our students to develop healthy relationships with technology and be safe, confident explorers of the digital world. Apart from that, students need a holistic education that includes practical vocational skills, communication strategies, and leadership development to make them future ready.

The role of teacher is pivotal in making learning more inviting and positive as it is very vital for student success and it creates impact on them in many ways. The teacher needs to focus on the PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT of the class, have bright posters, organized space and cooperative learning arrangement as this strengthens learning. The classrooms of today are considered Teachers as they offer a huge learning experience to the children. Schools are looking to adopt classroom layouts that encourage creativity, collaboration, and flexibility.

The PSYCHOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT is also a very important factor. A teacher needs to be calm, patient and focus on helping students learn both intellectually and socially. He / she should be a role model full of values. Yet another important aspect is the INSTRUCTIONAL ENVIRONMENT. Teachers should plan what to teach and how to teach, as differentiation is the key to effective learning. The teacher must adopt the best fit learning style to cater to the different learning abilities of her students. Beyond tools and technology, students need to develop new skills to solve tough problems, collaborate effectively, and express ideas in new ways. Incorporating problem-solving, coding, and STEM subjects as part of pedagogy will definitely work in the benefit of today’s students.

Teachers are essential in making classrooms lively with an air of fun and excitement. They ensure that they build community of learners, make learning relevant, let students know that they care about them, incorporate active learning with high expectations and make learning enjoyable.
